Admissions

From September 2013, Bentley West Primary School took responsibility from Admissions & Appeals for all in year applications for a school place.  If your child is currently out of school, or you want them to transfer from their current school to Bentley West Primary School, please come to the main school office and request an application form so that your child can be added to our waiting list.

There is an admissions policy outlining in detail how to apply for a place and this is in line with the Local Authority guidelines and can be found below.

Admissions Policies

Admissions Policy 2024/25

Admissions Policy 2025/26

Admissions Policy 2026/27

The school can admit 30 children in any class.

We ask for the following information to be provided in order to register a child:

Identification

Full Birth Certificate   Or   Passport

Proof of Address

Council Tax Letter or Utility Bills (Water, Electric and Gas excluding Mobile bills)

Places are allocated according to the authority published criteria.

The criteria are as follows:

1. Looked after children and any child with a statement of Special Educational Needs.

2. Children with brothers or sisters already at school who will still be at Bentley West Primary School when they start school themselves.

3. Children who live nearest to the school by straight line measurement.

NB. Admission arrangements for disabled students will be coordinated by our SENDCo Mrs Evans.

Primary School Transfers

The arrangements for children who transfer from another school to Bentley West Primary School are as follows:

1. Once the decision to transfer to Bentley West Primary School has been made, a start date for your child(ren) will be established. Details of previous school will be taken so that records can be passed on.

2. To assist with your son’s/daughter’s transfer, parents and children will have the opportunity to view the school at work and meet the Head Teacher/Head off School as part of the transition.

If the year group is full, you will be placed on a waiting list and we will inform you when a place becomes available.

If you would like to seek more advice, please feel free to come and talk to one of the school admin staff. Alternatively, you may wish to contact the Admissions and Appeals Department at Walsall Council - telephone number: 01922 652585

Overview

It's important that you include three schools on your application. This will increase your chance of getting a place at one of your preferred choices. If you only put your top choice down, there is a risk you might not get a place at that school. You may be offered a school that you’re not happy with instead.

We always aim to offer you a place at your highest ranked school.

If you live outside Walsall, you should complete an application from your home local authority (even if you are applying for a Walsall school).

Reception

Children born between 1 September 2021 and 31 August 2022 are due to start reception in September 2026.

Having a place in the nursery class attached to a school does not guarantee a place in the reception class at that school. You must send a separate application for a place in the reception class.

Infant to junior (year 3)

Children born between 1 September 2018 and 31 August 2019 are due to transfer from infant to junior school in September 2026. If your child attends an infant school, you'll need to apply to join the partner junior school.
